The firm was founded as Clarke Associates Architecture/Urban Design Ltd. in 1992 by Robert Clarke in Clerkenwell, London, following a successful entry in the gateway to Venice competition for the Venice Biennale of that year.
Over the years the practice evolved and in 2014 the decision was made to rebrand the firm as a:rc, architecture:robertclarke.
